social media - a threat to internal security or a tool for awareness

Social media is a platform where we interact with people all over the world, share our interests, and sometimes life updates also. As social media is used widely among multiple users of different age groups, it creates both problems and opportunities.

Now, I use the word “problem” because on social media, fake news circulates a lot. For example, an incident happened when Dr. Manmohan Singh got admitted to hospital and a news of his death was circulated, which misled many people. Online scams also grow a lot through these kinds of platforms. One very popular scam is selling clothes or any product through social media, which often results in defective products and sometimes totally different products.

Another problem which can be observed is radicalization, which means spreading hate towards a community through social media, which often creates a feeling of hate in young minds.

However, social media is also a boon for us as it creates awareness. Information and feelings can be shared fast, and through social media we can connect with the world which we have never seen or imagined. We come across many good things and negative things also, which creates awareness and sensibility.

Through social media, the government also shares its ideas and new schemes.

Overall, social media is a good platform if used within limits and in a positive way. We should always post practical and logical things, keeping in mind that it might circulate to young minds and impact them.
